Planting trees for the climate
Share
Since day 1, we have planted one tree for every Keinachtsbaum sold!🌲
However, like almost all companies, we do this via an external service provider, who then usually implements reforestation projects in the tropics.
Due to climate change, the site conditions for our native trees and forests are changing so rapidly that they unfortunately cannot adapt accordingly and are suffering from the heat of recent years and the resulting water shortage in the soil. In addition, heat-loving insects such as the bark beetle benefit from climate change and cause entire coniferous forests to fall.
A disaster for the climate! Because every single tree helps to absorb the environmentally harmful greenhouse gas CO2 from the air and release the oxygen vital for us. With this property, trees and forests help to keep the temperatures on earth stable.
We can no longer stand idly by and are therefore now planting new trees here on site. 💪🌲🌳
At the beginning of the year, we recultivated a large felled area of destroyed forest and planted several thousand trees of resistant and climate-tolerant tree species, such as American Red Oak, Nobilis (which we can later even use for cut greens), Western Red Cedar (Thuja), Larch, Douglas Fir, Sequoia, and Sweet Chestnut.
Even if the management is a bit more complex, it is more sustainable to create diverse mixed forests, because monocultures are more susceptible to pests, offer less protection and food to animals and plants, and store less CO2.
Unfortunately, planting trees does not replace a conscious lifestyle or the effort of each individual to reduce their CO2 emissions, but it is a start. Only when as many people as possible work on their ecological footprint can such reforestation projects have a major impact.
