A Christmas Story
Share
Hey,
I'm Nico, the founder of Keinachtsbaum®, and I love trees. Even as a child, I spent hours sitting in treetops, giving myself over to the gentle swaying, or in my den in the fir thicket, feeling safe. Every evening, I listened to the babbling of the poplars outside my window, and when I discovered Alexandra's song "Mein Freund der Baum" in my parents' music collection, I was completely captivated.
It pains me to see images of destroyed rainforests or to witness, while walking, how our forests suffer from the drought and storms of recent years. Nevertheless, I, too, was one of those people who put a Christmas tree in their living room year after year. After all, I loved this ritual as a child and didn't want to deprive my children of this exciting, mysterious, and always a little mystical tradition.
But when I got the fir tree every year, a guilty conscience was my constant companion. It was my then 4-year-old son who, shortly before Christmas, announced that he no longer wanted a tree to die for us. Why don't we just build a Christmas tree ourselves, like Petterson and Findus?!

The best ideas are convincing in their simplicity!
So, the first Keinachtsbaum® was built, and a load of fir greenery was cut from the neighboring forest. The result was so impressive that everyone who saw our "tree" at first couldn't believe it wasn't a real tree, and then wanted one of their own. A year later, the stand was refined, and I started talking to greenery producers about my idea. And lo and behold: apparently, my DIY tree solves a lot of problems for producers too.
If you only take a few branches from a tree instead of felling it completely, the yield and lifespan per tree are naturally much higher. The critical phase of the first 4 years of a fir tree is virtually eliminated, and the 30 – 70% of discarded trees from a Christmas tree plantation can finally be put to good use.
An idea becomes reality
With so much positive feedback from all sides, I felt encouraged to realize my Keinachtsbaum® project in 2020. With a carpenter friend (check out www.kleinholz.design ), I built the optimal "plug-in fir" and set up a crowdfunding campaign for the production of the first 555 trees, which was very successfully completed.
So, in Christmas 2020, the first households celebrated their Christmas with a Keinachtsbaum® and were delighted. Many thanks again at this point for the many nice emails, photos, postcards, and the chocolate cake :)

We want to save more trees
However, since it wasn't that easy for many to source their cut greenery locally, and the discarded trees of local producers still "died," I organized our own cut greenery the following year. This comes 100% from pure cut greenery areas, whose trees are allowed to continue growing after harvesting, and is conveniently delivered to your home on your desired date.
My personal vision is that Christmas tree monocultures will gradually be replaced by large-scale mixed forests, from which the necessary fir greenery will be carefully taken year after year, and whose area will steadily grow. If you are just as enthusiastic about this idea, then become a tree rescuer and actively contribute to finally burying the hatchet between humans and nature by purchasing a Keinachtsbaum®.
Best regards and a wonderful pre-Christmas season,
Your Nico
